SPiCYAM is a acronym for The Southern Perry County Youth Art & Media Center. The SPiCYAM is located in the former coal-mining town of Shawnee Ohio and is dedicated to providing a safe, stimulating, and creative arts activity center for area youth. The YAM offers itself as an after school activity center providing youth with free High-speed internet access, computer games, and arts/crafts activities. The centers focus is to help youth of this disadvantaged area develop a view of themselves within the context of their own community as well as the greater culture. Instruction in various art and media techniques is offered at the center, free of charge and on a walk-in basis. as well as access to computers for surfing the net, editing videos, photography and other computer related art work.
